The King and the Clown is a 2005 South Korean film about Yeonsangun of Chosun, a Chosun dynasty king who falls in love with a court clown who mocks him. The movie is based on a small passage from the Annals of the Chosun Dynasty that briefly mentions the king’s favorite clown. Starring Kam Woo Seong and Lee Jun Ki as the two clowns who staged a play which satirizes the king, they were arrested for execution but later given a chance to save their lives if they made the king laugh. Jun Ki looks and behaves like a lady in this movie. Yeap, I was deceived by his act initially. He really looks like one. Trust me and the picture below also proves it.
Is this movie worth watching? I think there’s no harm watching. After all, it is the highest grossing (over $85,000,000 in domestic receipts) Korean film in history with 12.3 million viewers. The movie also include the Chinese Opera similar to “Farewell My Concubine”.

I saw this in a dvd shop. I’ve been watching Korean films lately and have enjoyed Musa, Oldboy, Tale of Two Sisters, Silmido and couple more which I can’t remember right now. Any more films you can recommend?

Lee Jun Ki is really very beautiful, he looks and acts girlie than me. i like his acting so much. iwas very shocked with the kissing scenes (wooooow!). the story is very good too, iwas so touch with what Woo Seong did when Jun Ki was framed up by the queen.
i love the story line and the actors performance. iwas shocked by the kissing scene of Gong Gil and the King, i don’t expect it.
Lee Jun Ki is very pretty in the movie which makes his character effective plus his acting.
